  • This is the 7th coin out of 10 from the Queen's Beasts collection- the series minted by the Royal Mint and inspired by the 10 statues, sculptured by James Woodford in 1950's. The sculptures stood at the entrance of Westminster Abbey while the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was taking place. The motif of the White Lion was brought into the Royal history by Edward IV, who used the image of White Lios as a supporter of his Royal Arms. Also, the Queen's father, George VI used the emblems with the effigy of sitting lion, holding a shield with the white rose on the golden sun backgrounds. Nowadays, the White Lion of Mortimer and the rest of the Queen's Beasts figures can be admired at the Canadian Museum of History.
